Welcome to the Aptos Barn Project. I'll be documenting the process of doing a barn conversion -- from primitive workspace and mouse haven to a friendly artistic primitive home. I will share my sources on the sidebars of the page. These are business owners who've been instrumental in the completion of this project. Without them it would not have come to fruition, so please, remember them when you're doing your own renovation or DIY project. And don't forget to check in periodically to follow the progress here at the barn.

The day we first saw the barn, May 18th, 2012:

The side door:

The side door leads into what we envisioned as the dining hall, front entry can be seen at the far end:

The dining hall, in the distance, leads up a ramp to living room/bedroom combo (the inset Victorian window looks into our boy's room):

The blue painted floor will be the master bedroom, from the point of view of the living room area, with the dining hall in the distance:

One wall of the living room space (it follows the bedroom wall where the shelving unit is seen in the previous photo):

Front windows in the living room, the door on the right leads to what will be our boy's room:

Here you see the Victorian window that is shared with the living room. This will be our boy's room (the only room in the barn with finished floors, original from the 1920s):

His room has redwood walls, an arch in the center, a skylight and a shared window with what was the obvious choice for a kitchen in the distance:

Our wonderful friend Ron who allowed us to pursue the project standing in what will be the kitchen. In these photos you see a giant loft that will be removed to let the vaulted ceiling breathe:

Double doors lead from the kitchen out to a sunny side garden:
